Why a fitted tamper matters
A tamper that matches the basket compresses the coffee evenly to the edge, which helps the water pass through evenly. La Pavoni’s own current parts list includes a 51.5mm tamper for these machines, the same base size as this one.
The spring
You press until the spring bottoms out, so every tamp gets the same force. The listing includes three springs, so you can choose a lighter or firmer tamp.
Not sure which generation you have? Check in two minutes. Owners of older machines need a 49mm tamper.
