La Pavoni gasket kits by generation

Short answer

Pick the kit by generation first, model second. Millennium kits add a larger portafilter gasket and a sleeve seal; the other parts match the pre-Millennium kit. First-generation machines with a brass sleeve need their own kit.

La Pavoni changed basket and gasket sizes around 2000. Check your generation first.

Group kit or full kit?

A group kit covers the parts that wear fastest: two piston seals, the piston rod seal, the portafilter gasket and the group-to-boiler o-ring, per Orphan Espresso’s kit lists. A Millennium group kit adds the sleeve seal.

A full kit adds the boiler cap gasket, the steam valve seal, o-rings for some steam wands and the sight glass seals. If you are restoring a second-hand machine, a full kit is usually worth it.

Doing the job

Most owners can replace group seals with two wrenches, circlip pliers and a small screwdriver. Our gasket replacement guide walks through each step. If you would rather not, send a repair request.

Machines these fit

Best first lever

Europiccola

The smallest La Pavoni lever. One small boiler for brewing and steaming, no gauge, and the most direct way into a manual lever.

Boiler capacity
0.8 L per La Pavoni. US sources list 20 oz (manual) or 27 oz (importer).
Basket size
About 51mm (Millennium, made after 2000). Older machines use about 49mm.
Pressure gauge
None listed on the standard model (sight glass only). The Special Edition EPC-8SB adds one.

More shots per fill

Professional

The Europiccola's lever and group on a boiler twice the size, with a pressure gauge. The better daily lever for milk drinks or two people.

Boiler capacity
1.6 L per La Pavoni. US sources list 38 oz (manual, Amazon) or 54 oz (importer).
Basket size
About 51mm (Millennium, made after 2000). Older machines use about 49mm.
Pressure gauge
Yes, on the boiler. The US manual says it should top out at 0.7 to 0.8 bar and never pass 1 bar.

Questions buyers ask

How often should La Pavoni gaskets be replaced?

Whole Latte Love suggests every three to five years, depending on how long the boiler is left on. Replace them sooner if the group leaks or the lever feels soft.

What grease should I use on new seals?

A food-safe silicone grease. Orphan Espresso recommends NSF-certified Dow 111 and says to use it sparingly. Any H1 food-grade lubricant is suitable.

Which way do the piston seals face?

The iFixit guide says the lip always points to the pressure side, so the upper seal points up and the lower seal points down. A lower seal fitted backwards leaks immediately.
